The ECITB Rigging International Competence Evaluation (ICE) Level 3 qualification is a formal competence assessment programme designed to independently verify the knowledge, skills, and practical competence of personnel undertaking advanced rigging and load-handling activities within safety-critical industrial environments. The qualification provides assurance that individuals can safely plan, coordinate, and execute complex rigging operations using a range of rigging techniques and equipment in accordance with recognised industry standards, procedures, and best practices
The qualification assesses an individual’s ability to apply advanced rigging principles and safely perform lifting and load-moving activities involving more complex load configurations, challenging lifting scenarios, and enhanced responsibility for rigging operations. Candidates are required to demonstrate both underpinning technical knowledge and practical competence in advanced equipment selection, load assessment, sling arrangements, load control techniques, communication methods, hazard identification, risk management, and the safe movement and positioning of loads. Advanced rigging competence is critical to maintaining safe lifting operations, preventing dropped objects and lifting incidents, protecting personnel and assets, and supporting operational integrity in high-risk industrial environments.
To achieve the ECITB ICE Level 3 Rigging qualification, candidates must successfully complete the ECITB technical tests and associated practical competency assessments for TIRIG04 – Rigging and Moving Complex Engineering-Construction Materials Safely, TIRIG05 – Rigging, Rotating and Upending Complex Engineering-Construction Materials Safely, TIRIG06 – Lifting, Cross Hauling, and Installing Vessels in Restricted Access Areas and TICRA01 Supervising Crane Lifting Operations. Successful completion of these assessment components provides independent verification that the individual has achieved the required standard of competence to undertake advanced rigging activities safely, effectively, and in accordance with ECITB requirements.
The qualification assesses knowledge and competence across the following areas:
On completion, learners receive a globally recognised certification ensuring they have the required training and competence to perform rigging operations safely and efficiently. The certification provides transferable credentials for high-risk sectors like oil and gas, renewables, and heavy engineering.
Yes, the ECITB Rigging International Competence (ICE) Level 3 Qualification is widely recognised and transferable across engineering, oil and gas, and construction sites worldwide. It is globally accepted.
